In all my years of dealing with judges in the unified family law in San Francisco, Hon. Monica Wiley has been the most understanding. Even though her rulings were not always in my favor, they were always fair. I hope that one day she will return.
Compared to Colfax, she's a the best. At least she has a clear head and doesn't rush into decisions just to save time. She is not Bias and if you have her, keep her on your case. Justice will be served!
She does not follow the law, even simple mandatory provisions such as issuing wage assignments in child support cases. She is knowledgeable and has good instincts, but unfortunately let's her bias take over. She is extremely biased against mothers, especially low income or stay-at-home moms. She appears to start from a position of disbelieving domestic violence victims. When she was appointed, I was looking forward to appearing before the first female African American judge, as were most of my clients. Since 2012, I challenge her under 170.6.
To the last reviewer - I think your experience with Judge Wiley is unique. She is,, as the other reviewers have indicated, an excellent Judge. She is intelligent, compassionate, and fair. Biased against low income mothers?? Your assertion is absurd. Perhaps the facts of your case (and your advocacy position) has led you to believe that. My experiences, and almost everyone I know who practices in San Francisco, have been different. She is, without question, an amazing Judge and we are lucky to have her in family law.
