Judge Alvarez presided over my son's criminal case. While Judge Alvarez sentenced my son to 365 days (against my request that he be released as he had already served 4 months), it was very clear that Judge Alvarez pronounced the sentence he did "for" my son and not "to" him. The six months my son actually served were the best six months my son could have spent. Judge Alvarez did something that I as a mother had been unable to do - hold my son accountable for his actions without the love and emotion of a mother. Judge Alvarez sentenced my son as he did more to help him to get the help he needed rather to "punish" him. I will be forever grateful to Judge Alavrez for his fairness and genuine desire to help straighten my son out rather than to simply send him to prison which is what the DA's office was asking for.
